Supporting soil and compost projects across the UK

From major infrastructure schemes and urban regeneration projects to golf courses, tree nurseries and sports pitches, high quality soils and composts play a critical role in creating sustainable landscapes across the UK.

We manufacture more than 50,000 tonnes of premium topsoil, rootzones and peat free compost every year, supplying developers, landscapers, contractors, sports turf specialists and growers across the South East and beyond. Every product is manufactured to strict NHBC and British Standards, including BS3882 and BS8601, giving our customers complete confidence in quality, consistency and performance.

But where exactly are our soils and composts being used? Here’s a look at some of the projects we’ve recently supported across the UK.

Carefully manufactured topsoil

Unlike many recycled or “muck-away” soil suppliers, all of our topsoils are carefully manufactured using organic matter only, ensuring they are free from harmful chemicals and contamination. Every batch is screened and tested for:

  • Asbestos particles
  • Heavy metals
  • Glass, brick and ceramics
  • Benzopyrene and other contaminants

Because we manage the entire production process ourselves, we can also create bespoke rootzone and soil blends tailored to specific applications, including sports turf, housing developments, wildflower areas and amenity landscapes. Our soils are widely used for:

  • Sports pitches
  • Golf courses
  • Housing developments
  • Wildflower beds
  • Meadows and grasslands
  • Woodland and forestry planting
  • Public open spaces and amenity land

The result is nutrient-rich, high performing soil that supports drainage, improves fertility, encourages root growth and creates healthier, more resilient landscapes.

Where is our soil making a difference?

Plaistow Hub, East London

This major regeneration scheme in East London located beside Plaistow Underground Station, saw us supplying certified topsoil, subsoil, ornamental bark, trees, shrubs and over 2,500 plants to help create a vibrant urban landscape. Completed in early 2024, the finished scheme now provides an attractive green community space within a busy city environment.

Hillier Nurseries, Hampshire

We have proudly worked with Hillier Nurseries since 2019, supporting their field-grown semi-mature tree programmes across Hampshire. As one of the UK’s most respected tree growers, Hillier required sustainable peat free compost solutions that aligned with their environmental commitments. To date, we have supplied more than 3,300 tonnes of peat free compost to multiple nursery sites, including recent deliveries to Andlers Ash nursery near Petersfield.

Our organic compost continues to deliver strong growing performance across Hillier’s tree production sites while supporting more sustainable horticultural practices.

M5 Junction 8, Worcestershire

Our soils have also played a role in major UK infrastructure improvements. Working alongside CR Civil Engineering Ltd, Morgan Sindall Infrastructure and National Highways, we supplied specialist low fertility and wildflower topsoil as part of a geotechnical repair scheme on the M5 near Strensham.

The project followed a landslip affecting the motorway embankment and required rapid, carefully coordinated deliveries to keep the programme on track during road closures. The project was delivered successfully and contributed to a Perfect Delivery award for the contractor team.

Chichester Golf Club, West Sussex

Following prolonged wet weather and flooding, Chichester Golf Club required urgent drainage improvements across sections of its golf course. Working with MW Turfcare, we supplied specialist gravel aggregates to support drainage enhancement works across fairways and playing areas. The project was completed with an exceptionally fast turnaround, with the first delivery arriving just one day after the initial enquiry.

Centenary Quay, Southampton

At Centenary Quay in Southampton, we supplied certified soils to support the landscaping of a large waterside residential development by Crest Nicholson. Working alongside De-ath Bros, we supplied BS3882 topsoil and BS8601 subsoil throughout phases one and two of the project. Fast turnaround times and reliable deliveries helped ensure the landscaping programme remained on schedule.

Shopwyke Lakes, Chichester

We also supported the creation of new sports facilities at Shopwyke Lakes, a 90-acre residential development in Chichester. Working with White Horse Contractors — specialists in elite sports pitch infrastructure — we supplied certified subsoil and topsoil for the construction of cricket and football pitches ahead of the 2025 season.

Despite extremely wet winter weather, our production team worked continuously to ensure materials were screened and delivered to specification. The finished project now includes a cricket pitch, two football pitches and three new sports zones.

Why quality soil matters

Choosing the right soil supplier is critical for the long-term success of any landscaping or construction project.

Poor quality topsoil can lead to drainage problems, contamination risks, failed planting schemes and costly remedial work.

From urban regeneration and motorway infrastructure to golf courses, nurseries and sports facilities, our soils and composts are helping shape greener, healthier and more sustainable spaces across the UK.
