How did you get into the role? Tell us a little bit about your career history and what lead to you working at Woodhorn.
I was an NVQ Assessor for many years progressing to an Internal Verifier in Childcare. After several years of running a property management business I then spent half of my time in France and half my time in the UK.

I then started a job at a local waste recycling company in their skip department selling skips and learning about the construction industry. From there I went to work for a local recycling company as a Sales Representative dealing with aggregates and all other aspects of sales within the waste industry.

My experience led me to Woodhorn after meeting Mike Jupp (Commercial Director at The Woodhorn Group) and liking the ethos of the company and the products they produce.

What do you do on a day to day basis? Can you give us an insight into a typical day in your role?
First thing in the morning I deal with all enquiries and orders that have come in overnight. I sales order the orders for the previous day and deal with any telephone orders/enquiries.

Once a week I plan to go on site visits, meeting existing customers and looking for new sites to take our products, mainly our BS3882 Topsoil.

I use an online system which shows all prospective sites in West Sussex/Surrey/Hampshire which helps me assess opportunities and decide which sites are worth pursuing.

I have attended several exhibitions to meet prospective customers and to see what other products are available that may be of interest to us.

The best bits and challenges. Be open and honest, what’s the best thing about your job, and what can be tough sometimes?
The best thing about my job is the people I meet and talk to. I love chatting to the people on site and over the phone, the banter is great.

My biggest challenge is finding the right person to talk to on a new site, although research can give me facts about the site, it doesn’t always provide the site persons information.

When I turn up on a site most people think I am Health & Safety! I make this into a humourous situation and can usually get a response but not always!

Life outside of work – what are your interests and hobbies?
A work colleague has dubbed me “Judith Chalmers” ! My main hobby is going on holiday, Gibraltar is a favourite for me and Chris (my Husband) and we visit regularly. We also Cruise lots.

I have a two-year-old granddaughter I love to take out. I also love going to antique fairs, even going to one on my recent trip to New York! Food and cooking are also a passion, also looking out for any new restaurants to go to.
