| 01/10/2008 - 2008 Open Day |
Stunning September weather blessed our Public Open Day at our recycling site.
Site Tours were augmented this year by a series of talks in our marquee - which provided welcome relief from the sun rather than the rain which we might have anticipated given the date! Gardening expert John Negus held his audience spellbound by his incredible knowledge of plants and how to look after them. Phill Russell, Head of Waste Management at West Sussex County Council, gave a fascinating overview of how waste (not just green waste for composting) in general is treated in the County and the significant development plans being unveiled to further increase already impressive recycling rates in West Sussex. Peter Hill from WRAP gave an illuminating talk on composting at home.
Thanks are due to all of the above as well as the 'too many to mention' from West Sussex County Council, Chichester and Arun District Councils and Viridor Waste Management. A huge amount of hard work goes into these events and perhaps the biggest thank you is owed to The Woodhorn Group Staff without whom.............
The intention behind our Open days is to enable "people to see for themselves that their efforts made to separate their waste for recycling is genuinely worthwhile" and it does not end up in a hole in India as certain TV documentaries suggest! We had great feedback from our visitors who were able to see for themselves not only the process but the Earth Cycle compost products that we produce. There is no better way to see the recycling loop has been truly closed than sticking your hands into a pile of compost!
