February can be seen as the quiet month around the garden but it’s important to use this time to make sure that beds and borders are prepped for the busy planting to come in March.

Make sure beds have been mulched with either compost, manure or bark, like our Compost Soil Conditioner. Further guidance on this can be found in our January garden tips.

You can also use this time to cut back any hedges and generally tidy up the garden. You can then add the clippings to your own compost heap if you have one. While you’re at it deadhead winter shrubs and flowers to ensure a thick regrowth.

Potato tubers should be germinating nicely in containers during this month ready to be transplanted in March.
